Fire and Ice

Ice Chimney perfectly encapsulates the spirit of creativity and adventure that is at the heart of Anvil Tree’s artwork. With over a decade of experience sculpting with ice and snow, the Anvil Tree team seized an opportunity to build a temporary art installation as a study in how different elements might be combined to create an enchanting spectacle on the icy expanse of Lake Winnipeg.

Blazing Creativity

Using ice chisels, chainsaws and a Bobcat, the team applied their skills to sculpt a structure from blocks of solid ice harvested from the lake itself. Rising majestically from the frozen lake's surface, with both the Sun and the First Quarter Moon shining down from a canvas of blue sky, the chimney’s fireplace was lit and cast its glow on the icy waters of the swimming channel cut along its base, inviting a few brave souls to take the plunge. The flames cast intricate shadows on the ice, creating an otherworldly ambience that captivated all involved.
